As the mercury fails and chilly winds hit your Wirral garden we look at things to do gardening wise as Winter is well and truly on its way.

Leaves are falling rapidly with wind and rain are on the increase.

Winter colours

Some plants need protecting from frost, gales and freezing rains. Move plants into the greenhouse, or into a sheltered spot, but if you can’t, it is worth wrapping plants or pots where they are.

Remember winter can be a tough time for birds in terms of water and food, so keep supplies well topped up if you have a bird table.

Wirral garden services provide a full all year round service as there is always something to do in a garden from cutting back to reclaiming borders with pruning for some plants like a hydrangea in late spring as the dead heads protect the new buds from any frosts. Hedges can be reduced and some shrubs are pruned if they’ve become too big for their space in a border.

1 Clear up fallen leaves – especially from lawns, ponds and beds

2 Raise containers onto pot feet to prevent waterlogging

3 Plant tulip bulbs for a spring display next year

4 Prune roses to prevent wind-rock

5 Plant out winter bedding

6 Cover brassicas with netting if pigeons are a problem

7 Insulate outdoor containers from frost – bubblewrap works well

8 Stop winter moth damage to fruit trees using grease bands around the trunks

9 Put out bird food to encourage winter birds into the garden

10 Use a seasonal bonfire – where this is allowed – to dispose of excess debris unfit for composting

Welcome to October’s first update from Wirral Garden Services aka Fallen Leaves, we’re promoting our Wirral tree surgeon service this month.

Now is a good time to get your trees under control prior to the expected November gales. Although we had a relativity mild winter last who knows what to expect coming in from the Irish sea or over the Welsh hills. Better safe than sorry.

Expect Autumn Colours Soon

Of course we are still providing our usual garden care and maintenance service, which is better kept up year round. With the mild winter last year we had an extended grass and vegetation growth season. Although deciduous trees and vegetation sheds it leaves during the autumn period, things still need to be kept under control. If you need a gardener on the Wirral we’re the firm for you.

Well the latest news from Fallen Leaves has to be our new look website. We’ve gone for a sleek more professional look to showcase our full range of services. It is fully functional now and everything works fine. If you do spot the odd button that doesn’t link to a relevant category rest assured it will be fixed soon as we complete testing. All the important services are there, whether it’s garden maintenance, Wirral tree surgery or landscaping you see details and photos that show exactly what we do.

Our commitment to continuous improvement, great customer service and maintaining high standard remains the same. We hope the new look professional site helps highlight are qualities to you our current or potential customers.
